Most performers consider the song "I hope I get it" from A Chorus Line to be a bit of a cliche at auditions, there probably isn't one audition that I don't think the song at least once. Today I heard the song so many times, I promise I will never forget it. I promise! Please! Tell them I won't forget it! Just make it stop! [beat]
Enough of my melodrama. Let's start at the beginning of this ridiculous day.

Today's audition was actually a callback. Yesterday (Tuesday), I went all the way to Fulham for an open call audition for a Cruise Ship. I hadn't really expected much since cruise ships do not tend to want my type. (I'm a bit short) Imagine my surprise when they asked me to come back today for a dance (really mover's) call and a vocal callback.
The trip from Leytonstone to Fulham takes about an hour and a half. I headed out at around 9:00 for my 11:00 call. I arrived at the tube station only to be told that the Central Line had something fall onto the tracks and they weren't letting anymore people onto the platform at the moment. The suggestion was to take the bus, unfortunately A LOT of other people got that suggestion as well. I only arrived on time (barely) thanks to Marc (flatmate) who arrived about 20 minutes later as I waited. He somehow knew of a very roundabout way to avoid the central line. It involved a lot of hoping that I had done things right. I grabbed a bus (which was also packed, but at least I could get onto it) headed toward Walthamstow Central. Took the Victoria line to the Piccadilly line and then a bus at- ANYWAY, all that to say, I barely made it.
I arrived in the room to see A LOT of dancers who seemed to already know the dance. I was extra vexed when I heard the auditioner tell them to get ready for the dance. I was quickly pulled over by the other singers and I felt a blanket of relief wrap around me.

The singers learned a fun (but rather easy) dance to "Night Fever." (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!) But the Dancers were doing the opening dance to A Chorus Line and the poor things did it SO MUCH! I know a lot of that dance and considered jumping in, but those dancers were much better than I am... so I used self control.
After TONS of dancing, the dancers were cut down and finally dismissed. It was time for some singing! The night before, Qdos (that is the company) e-mailed the girls "Over the Rainbow" to learn (in the style of Eva Cassidy) and the men were sent "Give My Regards to Broadway" (which, surprisingly, most of them had never heard of). Each singer went separately and that took a very long time. They had me sing the song I sang yesterday ("Maybe This Time") as well as "Over the Rainbow." I didn't realize I was nervous until I was singing "Rainbow" and noticed I had a bit of a different vibrato. They asked me to stay to sing harmonies later.
Let more waiting commence.
I recorded "Over the Rainbow." Have a listen.

Singing Harmonies was great fun. We learned very quickly and sang... and then they made cuts. They listed off some names and mine was not included... there was a slight pause and then I saw my headshot passed over the table, "This one, too." It really was like something out of a movie. A movie in which I am the main character, I like that.
After being paired up a couple more times and singing some more harmonies, we were sent home at around 4:30. It had been a long, but fun day. They didn't tell us much except that they would be in touch in a week or so.... fingers crossed. :)
Oh, but WAIT! My day isn't over. I still have to get back to Leytonstone. As it turns out, the day had not done the central line any favors... I tried to take it on the way back, but the to no avail. Seeing that many people crammed onto a subway platform is not enjoyable, and I certainly did not want to be one of those people. So, I took the round about way home and FINALLY arrived back in my Leytonstone flat at around 6:45pm. I am knackered.

That is all for now. I've had some incredible sightseeing adventures and Nick and I are going to Paris next week. So, stay tuned for awesome forthcoming blogs!
