Taking time off.
In our industry it often feels like we are racing the clock. Trying to earn success before our bodies gives us away as the old people we are. Each grey hair and wrinkle is a sign of a role you can never play.

This clock racing becomes a problem when you forget to stop and take time to assess happiness (or just REST for a day) and soon you are faced with the inevitable burn-out. Even nascar drivers have to take a pit stop to get their wheels checked and tank fueled. If they didn't, their cars would just stop running in the middle of the track and then get run over by those following behind who DID stop.
Transfer the metaphor. Do you really want to be stampeded by hundreds of girls in Payless heels?! Take a day off and go to Jcrew for a nice pair of ballet flats.

I know a great many actors who pushed themselves and allowed others to push them (cause let's be honest- actors are far too often taken advantage of) to the point where it wasn't worth it anymore. The allure of the steady 9to5 where your boss wouldn't dare ask you to work for pennies an hour became too great.
So, is it okay to take a season off? I think when I tell people I haven't been auditioning much they look at me like I just can't hack it.
"What?! You want to get a good night's sleep?! Whimp!"
I don't want to burn out. I want to be auditioning for longer than one more year. (Which is about how long I think the exhaust that I am currently running on would last) And if taking a little time off to take classes and get in shape, and SLEEP is a career killer... That's a risk I am gonna have to take.
