For a while now, a solo album has been in the works. This past weekend, I went to Nashville to record the vocals. A lot of each track had already been recorded, so I was able to get a good feel for what the finished product will be and I am SO EXCITED!
Kevin Fogarty, my incredible producer, also did the arrangements (as well as playing a great deal of the instruments) and they are so fresh and fun. I think my favorite arrangement is "Speechless" (The Lady Gaga song), It feels bluesy and jazzy ... just awesome-ness.
When I Grow Up- the namesake of the album, starts with Ukulele (as seen above. :D) and KFogue was awesome enough to play that. We will be recording BGVs for that track in early May. My wonderful friends, Audrey Filson, Brittany Church, and Jordan Parkyn will be joining in for BGVs.
These wonderful people (above) were there the whole weekend. Left to Right: Amanda Miller- Assistant Engineer (and up-right bass player), Charley Hubbs (Chubbs) - Engineer/Editor/Many other things, and Kevin Fogarty (who you met earlier- Producer, Arranger, Ukulele, Guitar, Drums, miscellaneous). Not pictured is Rachel DeVore Fogarty- the incredible pianist on the album.

Recording eleven songs in one weekend was pretty intense. A LOT of coffee was needed. I also need to write a HUGE thank you note to Dr. Garrett. For those who don't know, I had vocal surgery in the spring of 2009. Dr. Garrett was my incredible surgeon and it is thanks to her that my voice works. I am so happy and elated about this project; but I am also happy to say that my voice can survive an intense weekend of vocals. Thank you Vanderbilt and Dr. Garrett!!
